“This year’s course was a little rough, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen worse at the LBS! There was a little of everything from top to bottom… from blue ice to sloppy slush, and it was snowing by the time we took our final runs. I felt pretty lucky to make it down without getting chewed up by any of those turns, and it was nice to finally get some more duct tape, it’s been a while.”-Barrett Christy

The Dew weekend is over! The level of riding was super impressive… for the guys and girls, especially when you consider that this was the first event of the season and the first opportunity for most of these riders to hit jumps that big, lines that long, or a pipe that good. It wasn’t just like it picked up where the last season left off… it was as though everyone stepped up to a new level just through the sheer stoke of riding on perfect terrain under blue skies and sunshine.
Gnu’s girls were charging all weekend long. Maddy continued to impress during pipe finals with a technical run AND amplitude on her B-pro. She loves the graphics so much she painted her face like a tiger and made cat noises throughout the day. She ended up in 4th, but she proved that she has what it takes to be on the podium at any given event against the world’s best.
Kaitlyn started off finals with a solid run, including her corked bs 9 on the first hit. She has such a big bag of tricks and combo’s, she is so much fun to watch ride. She placed 5th in the finals with her B-pro 52.
The women’s slopestyle finals on Sunday were under the same blue sky and sunshine. It’s the first year I didn’t hear a single complaint from anyone about the setup. (Except the men’s pipe finalists who had to ride in the dark at the end of the day). The jumps were smooth and big without too much “skier” kick on them. The whole run flowed. Jamie was loving her board on this course but couldn’t put together a complete run in the end. Just as her final run was shaping up to challenge Spencer’s lead, she knuckled on the last jump. Her final placing was 5th but she showed she still has what it takes to be on top of that podium. Congratulations to the GNU Girls and friends for an amazing weekend at the Dew Tour!
The Legendary LBS went off this year! With one of the best courses in LBS history, times were smoking. The whole Mervin Crew dominated the course with BTX and C2-BTX technology under their feet.
A special congratulations goes out the the Eric and Cody Warble, the first father and son to both win the coveted Golden Duct Tape Trophies. Bend Oregon’s Gus Warbington won the Juniors for a second year in a row, and his bother Max took Silver in Mens Younger Ams, also Maria Debari took Silver in the Pro Women’s Category Congratulations to all of the racers! And special thanks to the Mt Baker Crew!

Congratulations to all of the racers! MERVIN LBS PODIUMS:
Hannah Stouffer has designed another beautiful B-Pro board. The full length snakeskin textured topsheet compliments the exotic colorful snake lurking beneath the surface. You can almost feel the heat of the jungle rising up from the board. This graphic is hot, like killer snakeskin shoes and handbag hot, like riding as good as you look hot. With Hannah creating the artwork for the B-pro, the hi-end performance is matched by hi-end graphics. See more at: Grandarray.com
GNU: Wheres home? Wheres was it before?
California Raisin’ Hell vs. Aspen, CO
GNU: Whats your process and how did you arrive there?
Research and forget, trial and error, learning through doing, snacks, whiskey, draw something, spill everything, guess and check… and a little magic.
GNU: Can you tell us a little about the boards graphic you did for gnu?
Barrett Christy and I always come up with some amazing super saturated, animalistic graphics for her, and this years theme is no different… its like a passion fruit, tropical 80’s rave in the jungle, behind the scenes of Miami Vice. I started the piece off with the dueling tiger illustrations and just kind of lost my mind thinking about Lisa Frank, listening to Pantera and everything just kind of exploded out of that.
GNU: Do you snowboard?
I’ll give it a >1 per season. Its nothing personal… I promise. To tell you the truth, I was always more of the snow pants and earmuff ski-bunny type than a rip and shredder- but that doesn’t mean I’m not SO fast. Snow is just kinda cold these days, I get out there in the winters in Aspen… but I think I’ll stick to doing graphics and you guys can get out there and do some tail side, 540, 360 nose spin, sailfishes for me, cool??
GNU: What gets you out of bed in the morning, what inspires you?
Usually my dog, some black tea and deadlines- but I’m also pretty into getting up and at em… I’ve never been very good at sleeping, and I’m always excited and anxious about ideas and projects that I have going. I love this shit and I just can’t quit it.
GNU: Currently listening to?
Danzig, Trina, Gucci Mane, Thin Lizzy, Sleep, Iron Maiden, King Diamond… the usual…
GNU: Currently looking at?
My computer screen, words with friends, The Man Myth and Magic encyclopedia set, some old fantasy books- LOTS of books actually…
GNU:Thanks?
Always… to a demon, a gremlin, a goblin, a vampire, a ghost, and an alien- with a brain about this big.. and especially to Joseph for making it all come together- I owe it all to him. Thank you.
