RECALL NOTICE: 2012/2013 Winter Season GNU Bindings

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Press Release – View Here

We have discovered that some ankle straps on the 2012-2013 Gnu bindings may crack creating an unsafe fall hazard. In conjunction with the CPSC we are voluntarily replacing the ankle straps on all the 2012-2013 models.

Please know that our greatest concern is the safety of our customers, friends and riding partners. We are working diligently to ensure that every potentially affected binding ankle strap is replaced as quickly as possible.

If you purchased a 2012/2013 GNU binding, immediately discontinue use until you confirm your bindings are not part of the replacement program or you receive replacement straps.

To identify if your bindings are covered and order replacement straps use the Model Identification and Replacement Order Form.

Just broke my strap piece on Christmas day. Luckily I found this recall notice on Google page while I was searching for a spare part. Hopefully GNU can still provide me with a replacement after a couple of years. Can’t wait to use my own bindings again!

Definitely need to get in on the strap recall but have much bigger issues! Yesterday, while riding, I experienced a catastrophic failure of my front gnu weird binding. It wasn’t the strap that broke but the base itself. They were a gift and have only had them for a little over a month. ?

  • Gnu

Yikes! I’m so sorry to hear your binding broke.
    Here’s a link to our warranty form:http: //gnu1516.wpengine.com/support/warranty/

  • Gnu

Hi Eugene, sorry for the delay!
Here’s a link to our spare parts request page: http://gnu1516.wpengine.com/support/spare-parts/request-form/

  • jeremiah drinkard

I requested a new ankle strap months ago and filled out 2 replacement forms and have yet to receive my new strap??? So is this all just a scam or what

  • jeremiah drinkard

The whole strap broke not the buckle

  • GNU

    Hi Jeremiah,
I’m so sorry to hear you’re having issues!
It is not a scam, I don’t work in the warranty department, so I’m not sure exactly what the situation is, but I believe we are waiting on a shipment of new replacement parts.

  • Jeremiah Drinkard

So you haven’t forgot about me? I have no problem waiting I would just like to know if I’ll have the part before next season?

  • Jeremiah Drinkard

You say you don’t work in the warrenty dept. So should I email them?

  • GNU

Hey Jeremiah, have you just filled out a Spare Parts from? Or have you also filled out a warranty form?
I’d recommend a warranty form if your binding broke. That will go directly to our warranty department.

    Here is a link:
    http://www.mervin.com/support/warranty/

  • Игорь

Hello. My GNU Mutant 12/13 upper strap has cracked. I am in Ukraine now. I am tried to fill your request link – http://www.gnu.com/support/spare-parts/request-form/ , but problem in a telephone number.
Where do I go? Because I broke my rib mounts in the fall.

  • Игорь

    No reply?

  • GNU

    I’m sorry about that!
The best course of action is going to be filling out that warranty claim form.
A phone number isn’t required, so as long as you have your name, email address and a can describe the situation you should be just fine! The forms are forwarded directly to our warranty department, and they are in charge of replacement parts and repairs.

  • Corey

I filled out the form above as I have the 2013 GNU Mutant bindings in the Bigfoot colorway. I filled out the form in Febuary and just got the replacements today. Only problem is they are in black. Can I be sent the recall straps in the colorway that I originally bought. I put that info in the form not sure why I was sent a different color. Can somebody from GNU help me out?

  • GNU

    Hi Corey,
I’m sorry to hear that the straps weren’t what you were expecting.
What’s your email address? I’d be happy to pass this information along to our warranty department, but they will need some kind of contact information for you. You could also send an email to Ihaveissues@mervin.com explaining this situation (you can just copy and paste it!) and I can forward it along to our warranty crew. That way you don’t need to post your email address on a public site…whichever you prefer.

  • Scott

  • Сергей Скачко

  • Kimberly Clement

I have 2012/2013 Gnu B/Famous bindings that I purchased from The-House.com, and when I received my first pair, the toe cap straps were busted. I didn’t get to use them at all. I returned the initial pair, and The-House sent out replacements. After riding only a few times (and not hard, I might add) the toe cap busted on one of my bindings while I was on the mountain! Not good. I’ve missed days of riding because I don’t have bindings, and I’m awaiting response from The-House to see if I can just return them and get a full refund, because I can’t keep replacing faulty equipment. I thought it would be important to bring to your company’s attention that these bindings in general (not just the ankle straps), do not hold up well, have pieces made of flimsy plastic, and are potentially very dangerous. I talked with friends who have been riding for much longer than I have, and they said this should never have happened, and especially not twice. I will leave out the direct quotes, as they contained expletives. I’m attaching photos of both pairs so that you can see what I am talking about. Hopefully The-House will refund my money so that I can get a safer pair that will last.

Edit: I tried to attach photos, but they disappeared once this actually posted. If you have an email address, I’d be happy to send them along.

  • GNU

    Hi Kimberly,
I believe you emailed us also–I forwarded the photos and information along to our warranty department.
So sorry to hear you’re having binding trouble and we will help you get it sorted out asap!

  • Kimberly Clement

Thank you so much for your help! I’m very impressed with the quick response from the warranty department, and I know this issue will be resolved well. You guys are awesome! Thanks again!

  • Rob

My toestrap snap and broke in my hand while putting it over my toe while I was on top of killington mt in Vermont. Super frustrating I didn’t ride 2014/2015 season because of this. All I want is a toestrap but I literally can’t find it anywhere. Please help!
